Our Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission

Intiman Theatre uses the power of story and education to
activate dialogue, confront inequity, and build
collective joy.

Vision

Intiman Theatre seeks to inspire national activism from the intersection of our Seattle communities. We are fearless in our examination of traditional theatre operations and arts education models, and we dare to imagine and enact revolutionary new practices, leading to a more equitable world.

Values

At Intiman, we work to:

Theatre is for everyone. We welcome people of all backgrounds and beliefs and create a safe environment for people to express their unique selves regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, sexuality, and/or ability. No one is ever turned away for lack of funds – we provide discounted and free ticket options for all performances.

Storytelling offers an opportunity to empathize deeply with the narrative of another. We provide a safe space to come together and hear new perspectives and ideas. We lead with empathy in every interaction we have.

As our Seattle community continues to evolve, Intiman must also adapt to meet their changing needs. We learn from our community and pay special attention to the voices of the oppressed. We lean in when things become uncomfortable and grow from both our triumphs and struggles.

We are actively working to become an anti-racist organization. We are creating opportunities for BIPOC folx in our productions, programs, and on our staff and board. We use storytelling to amplify the voices of those marginalized and oppressed. Each of us must do our part to confront the white supremacist structures that exist throughout the nonprofit arts sector.

We are truthful in all that we do, holding ourselves to the highest moral and ethical standards. We are transparent and financially responsible with our reporting, initiatives and programs. When we make mistakes, we apologize and do better.

We believe in the power of our Seattle community and are committed to local talent and youth. We pay artists a professional wage working with all of the theatrical unions, and we create career pathways through arts education programs for others to enter the field.
