BLACK NATIVITY A GOSPEL SONG PLAY BY LANGSTON HUGHES |
||||||
INTIMAN Theatre announces the CD release of musical selections inspired by its stage production of Langston Hughes’s Black Nativity: A Gospel Song Play, a soul-stirring, roof-raising, hand-clapping testament to the power of gospel song. The recording contains 16 tracks, performed by Pastor Patrinell Wright, the Total Experience Gospel Choir and soloists who have appeared in productions of Black Nativity at INTIMAN, where it is an annual holiday tradition. The live studio recording, completed in October 2001, features such beloved songs as "Joy to the World," "This Little Light of Mine," "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Joyful, Joyful." Recreating one of the highlights of the stage production, the Reverend Dr. Samuel B. McKinney joins Pastor Patrinell Wright for the duet "Said I Wasn’t Gonna Tell Nobody." Accompanying the 16-member choir is a 7-musician band that includes veteran drummer Tony Coleman, who played with legendary blues guitarist B.B. King for 12 years and now fronts his own group out of Seattle. |
