Today was Dave Niehaus day here at INTIMAN. The Mariners legendary announcer came in to do some voice over for the show and it was a thrill for all of us. He kindly did the pre-show announcement, some lobby announcements and then sang Take Me Out to the Ball game a cappella! What a great sport! Everyone wanted their picture taken with him.
I had a meeting with Greg Sullivan our brilliant lighting designer, looking at our light cues and discussing various looks. Greg will provide much of the progressions of the games since we can't actually see the action and he will subtly shift the daylight to take us through the time changes. He will also give us a rain storm and some beautiful evening skies. I am obsessed with lights and the look of a show and how it's lit as you can see by the shot of my production of A Number which I did at Next theatre in
Chicago
in January of this year. We used lighting to differentiate the characters of the three cloned sons and it was quite effective, especially the under lighting for the most sinister of the boys.
We did another run through and some really valuable things started to surface including a greater assurity of play and an inevitable rise in playing energy and ferocity of play. The boys will need a set of fresh eyes soon so that they can get a sense of the audience's part in the process. The audience is our missing character. But soon enough, first we have tech.
