Great day. We read at the table for a bit, but the horses were chomping to get to their feet so we put it on its feet. Rough-blocked the first two scenes and it looks pretty good.
I am most fortunate to have these two players. Both give you so many choices and colors and best of all they love to “play,” which keeps things lively and fresh. It’s my job to keep things grounded and talk about character development, tone, and evolution of the plot.
I am a great admirer of Anne Bogart who developed the theatrical technique called “Viewpoints,” and who is a distinguished director as well. In her book on directing she asserts that one of the director’s most important contributions is to pay attention, or to bear witness. I love that idea and it is certainly my feeling as well. My colleague Frank Galati whom I have directed as well as been directed by, is perhaps one of the most generous and collaborative directors I know, scrutinizing every moment with loving attention and infinite support. Both of them play a role in the formation of my own work ethic.
More discoveries tomorrow and a production meeting as well, where we will outline the journey of our technical requirements and assess our needs to date.
More anon….
